Northeast’s largest power project initiated in Assam’s Dhubri
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid the foundation for a 3,200 MW thermal power plant in Dhubri, developed by the Adani Group. The project is part of a larger investment strategy aimed at making Assam an energy hub for the northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday (September 20, 2026) laid the foundation stone for the Adani Group’s 3,200 megawatt Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant at Chapar in Assam’s Dhubri district.
The ₹48,000-crore project, handled by Adani Power Limited, will be the largest power plant in the northeast. The project site involved the eviction of mostly migrant Muslims after the former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government could not provide space in the adjoining Kokrajhar district.
“Assam is fast emerging as the region’s energy hub, with several mega energy projects in the pipeline. The 3,200 MW Chapar project is a proud outcome of the confidence generated by the Advantage Assam Investor Summit 2.0,” the Chief Minister said.
