Northeast Monsoon may trigger wet spell in Andhra Pradesh till October 19

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for a wet spell between October 14 and 19 due to the onset of the Northeast Monsoon. While initial concerns about a low-pressure system were dismissed, experts confirm that monsoon troughs will bring moderate to heavy rainfall across the state.
Why it matters
Accurate weather forecasting is essential for disaster preparedness and agricultural planning in regions prone to monsoon-related weather events.
Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness a wet spell from October 14 to 19, with the Northeast Monsoon setting in over South Peninsular India from October 15.
Earlier this week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that a low-pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around October 13. However, weather experts have now pointed out that the system does not have the required strength to develop into a low-pressure zone.
Andhra Pradesh will experience a wet spell not because of the low pressure over Bay of Bengal but because of the onset of Northeast Monsoon and monsoon troughs, experts said.
There is a trough running from the cyclonic circulation over Comorin area to Northwest Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast, across Gulf of Mannar and Southwest Bay of Bengal.
