North East’s biggest bridge nearing completion to slash travel hours
The Mishio-Wuyima Bridge, the largest in Ghana's North East Region, is nearing 70% completion after work resumed under the NDC government following a halt due to debt restructuring. Once finished, the bridge and its associated road network will significantly reduce travel times between several northern regions and districts.

Work on the ongoing Mishio-Wuyima Bridge, the biggest bridge (210 meters) in the North East Region, is nearing completion. The project is expected to slash travel hours to four regions in the northern part of the country.
The construction of the steel Ostrict Belly bridge started under the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration in 2019 and was expected to be completed before the 2024 General Elections. However, work was halted due to the government’s debt restructuring policy.
All concrete works at the bridge, including the piers and the abutment walls, and the launching of the bridge deck on two piers were completed by the NPP government before the project was halted.
The NDC government led by President John Dramani Mahama resumed work on the project but revised the contract sum from GHc140 million to GHc190 million.
