North Carolina fraud scheme stole over $650,000; man gets 15 months in prison

A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for his role in a bank fraud scheme that used stolen personal information to obtain replacement debit and credit cards. Investigators said the cards were then used to make more than $650,000 in retail purchases, affecting at least 10 identity-theft victims. According to the report published by Yahoo News and details carried by WCCB Charlotte, Jacob Lawson, 33, of Reidsville, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay $656,781.46 in restitution. His alleged co-conspirator, Cordara Mattox, was previously sentenced to 30 months in prison.
