Minister for Natural Resources, Minerals and Mines T.K. Prabhu on Friday assured protesting villagers that no permission had been granted for a proposed stone quarry near Singampunari in Sivaganga district.
As steps were allegedly taken to establish a private stone quarry on 36 acres in Jayankondanilai village near Singampunari in Sivaganga district, residents of Jayankondanilai, Krishnapuram, E. Malampatti, Mallakkottai, and Siddamallipatti villages jumped into immediate protest opposing the project.
On July 27, a group went to Sivaganga to submit a petition in support of the quarry. As the villagers intercepted them, a clash broke out between the two groups, leaving two people injured.
Both sides filed complaints against each other with the District Collector. However, it was reported that permission for the quarry had already been granted.
In light of this situation, Mr. Prabhu travelled to Jayankondanilai village on Friday to meet with the residents there.
