No fake messiah needed, just prudent leadership

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) group has defended the political capacity of Peter Obi, arguing that his past record as governor demonstrates his ability to lead Nigeria. This statement counters claims by Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed that Nigeria's challenges are too vast for any single individual to solve.
Why it matters
This highlights the ongoing political discourse and leadership debate in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has rejected the assertion that no individual, including Peter Obi, Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC presidential candidate, can rescue Nigeria from its deepening socioeconomic and institutional challenges, arguing that Obi’s record in office provides evidence of his capacity to lead national reforms.
The group’s position followed comments attributed to Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a former vice-presidential candidate, who recently argued that the scale of Nigeria’s problems is too great for any single individual to resolve.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Idris Zekeri Jnr, POMR spokesperson, the group acknowledged the severity of Nigeria’s challenges but said the country’s predicament made demonstrated leadership capacity more important, rather than less.
“Datti Baba-Ahmed’s suggestion that not even Peter Obi can rescue Nigeria is understandable as an expression of frustration, but it is not a conclusion supported by the facts,” the group said.
