No campus, no transport, no proper hostels: GMC Jagtial medical students on indefinite protest over four-year delay

Medical students at the Government Medical College in Jagtial, Telangana, have launched an indefinite protest due to a four-year delay in completing their permanent campus. Students are currently forced to study in temporary structures and live in overcrowded, inadequate rented housing.
Why it matters
The protest highlights systemic failures in infrastructure development for public education and the impact on medical training quality.
Governments have changed, multiple batches of medical students have been admitted, but nearly four years after the foundation stone was laid, students of Government Medical College (GMC), Jagtial in Telangana are still waiting for the permanent college building they were promised. They continue to attend classes organised at temporary structures and live in a rented accommodation being used as hostels.
With the permanent campus still incomplete, medical students began an indefinite, peaceful protest on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) demanding basic infrastructure, proper hostels, laboratories, transport and other facilities required for medical education.
