NL One of Few Provinces Left Without Laws on E-Bikes and E-Scooters

Newfoundland and Labrador remains one of the few Canadian provinces without specific legislation regulating the use of e-bikes and e-scooters. Medical professionals are calling for age restrictions following a rise in serious injuries among young riders.
Why it matters
The lack of regulation for new personal transportation technology poses significant public health risks, particularly for minors.
Nova Scotia and Manitoba are the latest provinces to bring in legislation which spells out age and speed limitations involving the use of e-bikes and e-scooters. That leaves Newfoundland and Labrador as one of the few jurisdictions with no laws covering the relatively new form of transportation.
You now see them everywhere – on roads, sidewalks, parking lots and trails with kids of all ages at the wheel.
