Nine fishermen from Rameswaram were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy personnel on charges of poaching on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).
According to sources, nine fishermen, including Praveen (45), Arul Loyola (43), Sabari Vinothvin (42), Deva Sahayam, Sendil, from Pamban, Rameswaram and Thaganchimadam, ventured into the sea for fishing on Wednesday.
A total of 469 boats were issued tokens by the Fisheries Department for fishing on Wednesday. While these fishermen were fishing near Katchatheevu in the evening, Sri Lankan Navy patrol apprehended the fishermen along with their boat and took them to the Sri Lankan Navy Camp at Thalaimannar.
