Teddy Allen was assaulted downtown Sunday night and hospitalized, the Canadian Elite Basketball League team said in a news release Monday.

"What we've seen and heard to date leads us to believe that Teddy was the victim of an assault at the hands of security," the team said in an update on Tuesday.

"No person should ever be subjected to the brutality of what happened to Teddy," the team's unsigned statement said, describing Allen's injuries as "significant." The statement said Allen is out of hospital but "will require further diagnosis, followup care and potentially surgery."
