Nigeria reports 469 suspected diphtheria cases and 31 deaths

--> In Nigeria’s Plateau State, 469 suspected cases of diphtheria and 31 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of 2026. This was reported by the state commissioner for health, Nicholas Baamlong, Premium Times Nigeria reports .

According to Baamlong, authorities have vaccinated 160,000 children as part of enhanced measures to contain the outbreak. The number of suspected cases increased in August, prompting the state government to step up vaccination, epidemiological surveillance and public awareness efforts in affected communities.
