Since May 1, when the first suspected cholera case was reported from from Shehuri South Ward, in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) local government area (LGA) in Borno State, Nigeria, more than 3,000 cases of cholera have been recorded across seven local government areas of Borno State (MMC, Jere, Konduga, Mafa, Monguno, Magumeri and Ngala) in May, according to the Executive Secretary of the Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Saleh Kaza. In addition, 37 fatalities have been reported in May. The case fatality rate is approximately 1%.
