Fortitude tells the true story of Operation Fortitude, in which the Allies distracted Hitler's forces from the true location of the Normandy invasion. With Winston Churchill's (Michael Sheen) help, they assemble fake tanks and troops poised to attack Pas-de-Calais.
Ian Fleming (Art Malik) is a character in the film. Nicolas Cage plays Dusko Popov, the spy who inspired Fleming's James Bond. In the trailer, Cage orders a martini "shaken, not stirred."
Fleming later exits a hotel room that becomes room 007 when the 8 falls sideways.
