NHAI begins overpass construction at Sadahalli Junction on NH-44
The National Highways Authority of India has begun construction on a new overpass at Sadahalli Junction on NH-44 in Bengaluru. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion for airport commuters and is expected to be completed by mid-2027.
Why it matters
Infrastructure improvements are critical for managing the rapid growth of transit corridors near major international airports.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced construction of a vehicular overpass (VOP) at Sadahalli Junction on NH-44 (Airport Road) in Bengaluru to improve traffic flow and connectivity towards Kempegowda International Airport and Andhra Pradesh.
“The project is aimed at easing vehicular movement at the busy junction, which caters to commuters travelling towards the airport and neighbouring regions. The overpass is expected to facilitate smoother traffic movement, improve traffic efficiency, and strengthen road connectivity along the corridor once completed,” a NHAI official said.
According to NHAI, the project is scheduled for completion by mid-2027, subject to weather and geological conditions. The Bengaluru Traffic Police Department has granted the necessary permissions for traffic diversions and the execution of construction work. Commuters travelling through Sadahalli Junction may experience traffic congestion and diversions during the construction period owing to ongoing work and changes in traffic movement.
