Newly elected TVK MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama take oath

Two newly elected MLAs, Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama, have taken their oaths in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Both candidates won their seats representing the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party following recent byelections.
Why it matters
The addition of these members increases the legislative strength of the TVK party, reflecting shifting political dynamics in Tamil Nadu.
Newly elected MLAs Maragatham Kumaravel and P. Sathyabama took oath in the presence of Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar on Monday (October 12, 2026). They were elected from the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies, respectively, which are reserved for the Scheduled Castes.
The byelections were held after the two former AIADMK MLAs resigned their Assembly memberships and quit the party to join the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The TVK renominated them, and both won the byelections.
With this, the strength of the TVK in the 234-member House has gone up to 109.
