A newborn was found abandoned at an isolated spot on the Government District Hospital compound here in the early hours of Wednesday (September 9, 2026).
The police said attendants of patients heard the cries of an infant wrapped in clothes and alerted the authorities. The Urban police reached the spot and handed over the girl to the district child protection wing, which took her to a care centre.
The police said they were examining CCTV footage in and around the hospital to trace those who abandoned the baby.
