New weather stations target deadly floods in eastern Uganda
Milton Waiswa, the Assistant Commissioner for Station Networks and Observation in the Department of Meteorological Services, said the expanded network would increase the availability of weather information for specific locations.
The stations will monitor rainfall, temperature, humidity and wind, producing information to support weather forecasting, agricultural planning and responses to climate-related hazards.
The Government is investing sh500m in weather monitoring and flood early warning systems across 11 districts in eastern Uganda to strengthen disaster preparedness and reduce losses caused by floods and landslides.
