New Weapons In The Fight Against Cancer: AI Technology To Detect Cancer Stem Cells Early
Researchers have developed an AI-based tool called ACSCEND to identify cancer stem cells, which are linked to treatment resistance and recurrence. While promising, the technology is currently in the research phase and requires extensive clinical trials.
Why it matters
Advancements in AI-driven diagnostics could significantly improve cancer treatment outcomes by enabling earlier detection and more personalized therapeutic approaches.
Scientists have found that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help in identifying cancer stem cells at an early stage to check the risk of recurrence. Recent developments include an artificial intelligence-based approach to predict the risk of recurrence after treatment and a new drug compound that targets only cancer cells and minimizes the damage to healthy cells. So far, these findings are restricted to the research and laboratory stages. Their safety, efficacy and clinical utility can only be established after extensive clinical trials on patients have been completed, Dr. Senthil Rajappa, Senior Medical Oncologist, Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital told Eenadu-ETV Bharat, adding, "These research findings are a ray of hope for future cancer treatments. AI-based Cell Detection ToolThe study used "single-cell RNA" analysis to look at individual cancer cells.
