New shore-based facility to enhance submarine rescue preparedness inaugurated in Vizag
The Eastern Naval Command has inaugurated a new shore-based Launch and Recovery System (LARS) Test Plinth in Visakhapatnam. This facility is designed to streamline maintenance and conduct trials for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) to ensure operational readiness.

Vice-Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command, inaugurated a unique in-house Launch and Recovery System (LARS) Test Plinth at the Submarine Rescue Unit (East) in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
The newly established shore-based facility is designed to conduct comprehensive trials and essential maintenance operations for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle’s (DSRV) LARS.
According to an official release, this will significantly boost operational readiness and ensures the sustained upkeep of India’s critical submarine rescue capabilities along the Eastern Seaboard.
