New resource helps Western Australians protect their brain health

A new Curtin University-led resource is helping Western Australians take practical steps to protect their brain health and reduce their risk of dementia.

Brain Health WA was launched during Dementia Action Week as WA faces the nation’s fastest projected growth in dementia cases.

Available online and in print, the resource turns the latest research into clear advice, everyday actions and links to support services for people of all ages and backgrounds.

More than 100 Western Australians helped develop the resource, including people living with dementia, carers, culturally diverse communities, policymakers and industry representatives.

WA dementia cases are expected to double over the next three decades, rising from an estimated 43,400 people in 2026 to about 87,000 by 2054.

Brain Health WA lead Dr Claire Burley, from Curtin University’s enAble Institute, said many people were never told what they could do to protect and improve their brain health.
