Health New Zealand said the National Public Health Service was supporting the person and their close contacts to help prevent further spread of the highly contagious disease.
It was also identifying locations of interest the person visited while infectious. Currently, those included the Salvation Army in Upper Hutt, Canine Solutions in Naenae and Romans Kitchen in Lower Hutt, as well as addresses in Wairarapa and Lower Hutt.
Medical officer of health for the Greater Wellington region, Dr Craig Thornley, said the confirmed case was a timely reminder for people to stay alert to measles.
