MANILA, Philippines - A law signed last week by President Marcos would help expand higher education opportunities for poor families, a lawmaker said on Sunday.
In a statement, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan said Republic Act No. 12325 expands financial aid and support for disadvantaged college and trade school students, touting the law as an extended lifeline for those under the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
"This is a major opportunity for our 4Ps families. We want their children to have a fair chance to go to college, finish a degree and build a better future for themselves and their families," Libanan said.
RA 12325 amends the 2017 Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act by expanding subsidies to cover internship and licensure costs, with added allowances for students with disabilities. Assistance may also cover school supplies and transportation expenses.
