New group promises to stick up for parents in battle to improve education

A new group promising to stick up for parents in pursuit of better educational standards for their children will launch this evening in Wellington.

The group is designed to be a counterbalance to the teachers’ unions and principals’ associations when it comes to designing and advocating for education policy.

“Teachers have unions. Principals have associations. Ministers have ministries. Parents and grandparents have no one. The Parents’ Alliance speaks for them,” the group’s co-founder and executive director Anya Zohrab, a former adviser to several governments who recently served in Act leader David Seymour’s office, said.

The alliance will be chaired by former ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie.
