New DUSU office-bearers visit Satya Niketan, promise action on housing issues

The three newly elected Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) office-bearers from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) visited Satya Niketan on Monday to pay tribute to the students who lost their lives in the September 6 building collapse and promised to address students’ accommodation issues.

In a statement, the ABVP said, “Upon arriving there, the office-bearers pledged that the new students’ union would continuously struggle to resolve the issues faced by students living in Satya Niketan and surrounding areas and protect their rights. They also vowed to make every positive effort to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.”

New DUSU president Yash Dabbas said the practice of charging arbitrary rents and depriving students of basic amenities in Satya Niketan was a serious issue.

ABVP Delhi State secretary Sarthak Sharma said the election victory marked the beginning of the union’s accountability to students.
