New common kitchen planned for breakfast scheme expansion

The Tiruchi Corporation has planned to set up an additional common kitchen to facilitate the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to students of Classes 6 to 8 in Corporation, government, and government-aided schools in the city.
At present, two common kitchens prepare breakfast for primary schools under the scheme. The centralised kitchen at the Syed Murtuza School complex near Marakkadai supplies breakfast to around 8,700 children in 75 schools. Another kitchen near the Circuit House in Mannarpuram caters to around 9,500 children in 90 schools across the city.
With the scheme being extended to children of Classes 6 to 8, the Corporation has identified a 4,000 sq. ft. site near the Mannarpuram kitchen for the proposed facility. The civic body has sanctioned ₹2 crore from its Education Fund for 2026-27 for setting up the kitchen.
