PMO Nepal Arnold Dix, a geologist in Australia with vast experience in underground rescues, has been advising teams who are trying to reach as many as 100 workers believed trapped inside the Trishuli 3A hydropower station, one of 27 such facilities damaged or destroyed in flooding along the Nepal-China border.
From his office in Melbourne, Dix has been reviewing technical drawings, satellite images and aerial videos to determine the best way to access the tunnels.
“Normally, they collapse and I’m trying to get people out. This time, they haven’t collapsed, but everything around them has, and I’m trying to get in,” he said.
