Nellore all set to distribute 10,000 bicycles to girl students on July 27

Nellore district is gearing up for the much-anticipated bicycle distribution programme for girls, which will bring education closer to the reach of students. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Ponguru Narayana has been at the forefront of making this initiative a reality.
The ambitious plan to distribute 10,000 bicycles to girls studying in 23 State-run high schools in his Nellore constituency and hailing from economically disadvantaged families is intended to save money on transportation needs. In fact, the Minister decided to undertake the ₹6-crore project at his own expense after learning that some students had to walk up to 40 minutes to reach school on time.
Of the total 10,000 bicycles, 7,000 are parked at the Venkatagiri Rajah (VR) High School in Nellore, and will be distributed at a grand function scheduled to be held on July 27 (Monday). The remaining 3,000 will be distributed by Sankranti festival.
