Nedumbassery accident: CPI(M) stages protest march to police station over ‘indifference’ in handling of case

The CPI(M) is protesting against the Nedumbassery police for their alleged mishandling of a fatal accident case involving a wealthy suspect. Protesters claim the police are protecting the accused, Suhail Sajeev, by omitting key details from the FIR.
Why it matters
The case highlights public concerns regarding police accountability, political influence, and the legal treatment of young offenders in Kerala.
Protests against the alleged police indifference in handling the Nedumbassery accident case that claimed three lives continued unabated, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) organising a march to the Nedumbassery police station on Wednesday (October 14, 2026).
The protest march, organised by the CPI(M) Aluva area committee, was inaugurated by district secretary S. Satish. Police stopped the march before it reached the station by erecting barricades on the road. Slogan-shouting protesters attempted to breach the barriers. A similar march to the police station had been organised by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Tuesday.
