The police seized nearly 2 kg of suspected MDMA in a series of related raids in what they claimed to be the largest seizure of synthetic drugs from within the Kochi city limits since the launch of the anti-narcotic campaign in June.

Two natives of Mattancherry — Safeer Thazhakath, 33, and Noufal, 32 — were arrested in connection with the seizure, the police said on Friday (September 4, 2026).

The arrest of Thazhakath by the Palarivattom police with 0.01 gram of suspected MDMA recently led to the drug haul. Safeer was held with 14 grams of suspected MDMA from his house following the investigation into the first case.
