NDMC asks residents of 145 Valmiki Sadan quarters to vacate unsafe buildings

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has asked residents of 145 Type-I quarters at Valmiki Sadan, primarily occupied by sanitation workers and civic staff, to vacate the premises after a structural assessment found eight residential blocks unsafe for habitation and beyond economical repair.

The affected quarters are spread across eight blocks. Of these, 81 quarters are in four three-storey blocks built in 1965-66, while 64 are in four four-storey blocks constructed in 1985-86, according to an NDMC press release issued on Tuesday.

The individual vacation notices issued by the council said the structural assessment was carried out by Sushma Consultancy Services LLP and vetted by the NDMC’s Civil Engineering Department.
