NC legislator alleges bodyguard ‘attacked him’; police accuse him of ‘assault’
A National Conference legislator in Jammu and Kashmir has accused his bodyguard of physical assault following a dispute over the officer's absence. Conversely, the police have filed an FIR against the legislator, alleging he assaulted the officer on duty.
Why it matters
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between political figures and security personnel in sensitive regions, leading to conflicting legal claims.
Ruling National Conference (NC) legislator Altaf Kaloo alleged on Friday that his bodyguard had “grabbed him by the neck” during a fracas over his reported truancy. Meanwhile the J&K Police have lodged an FIR against Mr. Kaloo for “assaulting a policeman on duty”.
“My Personal Security Officer (PSO) had been absent for a few days which I formally reported to officials on Thursday. Later that afternoon, the PSO, annoyed at my reporting his absence, used disrespectful language, launched a physical attack, and tried to grab me by the neck, before other security personnel intervened,” said Mr. Kaloo.
