<p>The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday brushed off remarks made by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano who called NBI Director Melvin Matibag a cartoon character, vowing it will continue with its investigation of alleged corruption in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. </p><p>In a statement, the NBI said it will not take "offense at the label, nor will it be answered in kind."</p><p>"The Bureau's work rests on evidence, on documents, and on the law - and none of these is moved by name-calling. The Director answers to no one's interest but the public's," the NBI said.</p><p>"Director Matibag will continue to do the work the Filipino people expect of him. He may be called many things.
