Navy detains Tharuvaikulam boat with 9 fishermen
The Indian Navy detained a fishing boat from Tharuvaikulam with nine fishermen on board for entering a restricted area near Kavarati Island. The crew was taken to the island for interrogation regarding the unauthorized entry.

The Indian Navy has detained a mechanised boat from Tharuvaikulam in the district when it was reportedly spotted in the banned area near Kavarati Island, the capital of Lakshadweep.
A group of nine fishermen ventured from Tharuvaikulam fish landing centre for multi-day deep sea stay fishing in the mechanised boat owned by Michael Raj of Tharuvaikulam in the last week of August. After selling the catch in Kochi, they went for fishing again from Kochi on September 4.
When they were fishing near Kavarati Island of Lakshadweep Islands around 3 a.m. on Monday (September 7), the boat accidentally entered the ‘banned area’.
