NATO is looking to create the same battlefield feedback loop Ukraine has
NATO is seeking to replicate the rapid battlefield feedback loop utilized by Ukraine, which allows for the quick development and deployment of military technology. By fostering closer ties between the defense industry and front-line operations, the alliance aims to innovate faster than adversaries.
Why it matters
This shift represents a fundamental change in how Western military alliances approach procurement and technological adaptation in modern warfare.

In Ukraine, data from the front lines is relayed to industry, which quickly develops new tech. It is then deployed, often within weeks, before Russia can adapt and render it obsolete. NATO leadership is looking for ways to mirror Ukraine's battlefield feedback loop, in which issues from the front lines are relayed to the defense industry, which quickly fields solutions for soldiers. US Air Force Gen. Alexus Grynkewich, who oversees NATO military operations as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, said Ukraine has built high-level contacts with the defense industry "that allow them to innovate very quickly."
