A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the protesters being harassed and chased by the suspected thugs, who witnesses alleged were loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the footage, the protesters, who had gathered peacefully to demand an end to hunger, economic hardship and what they described as bad governance, were seen attempting to avoid confrontation as the suspected thugs advanced toward them.
Witnesses alleged that the police officers at the scene did not stop the attackers as the disruption unfolded.
