The Shivamogga district administration and the AYUSH Department conducted a programme on Wednesday to mark National Ayurveda Day.

Shivamogga Lok Sabha member B.Y. Raghavendra, taking part in the programme, said that Ayurveda was India’s most ancient and traditional system of medicine that helped people lead a long and balanced life. It was also an excellent remedy for today’s stress-filled lifestyle, he added.

Mr. Raghavendra said the Union government had launched the National AYUSH Mission to create awareness about Ayurveda, and that more than 200 government Ayurvedic colleges had been set up across the country. Greater emphasis was being placed on research, and the Centre was encouraging farmers to grow herbs with medicinal qualities, he said.
