Nasa unveils X-70 Fractal, a flying lab to test future aircraft technology
NASA has unveiled the X-70 Fractal, a modular experimental aircraft designed to test advanced flight-control technologies. The flying laboratory is expected to begin flight testing within the next two years.
Why it matters
The X-70 represents a shift toward modular, reconfigurable aviation research, potentially accelerating the development of next-generation flight technologies.
Nasa has unveiled a new experimental aircraft, the X-70 Fractal, designed to test advanced flight-control technologies and explore new ways of improving aircraft manoeuvrability. The aircraft will serve as a flying laboratory, allowing researchers to experiment with emerging aviation technologies and study how they could shape the future of flight. The announcement was made by Nasa administrator Jared Isaacman at the UP Summit at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on November 4.According to Nasa, the X-70 is part of the agency's renewed effort to expand its experimental aircraft programme and develop technologies that could advance future aviation. The aircraft is expected to make its first flight under the Nasa banner within the next two years. The X-70 Fractal is a crewed experimental research aircraft built around a modular and rapidly reconfigurable design.
