NASA's SkyFall Helicopters At Work

NASA is developing the SkyFall project, which involves sending three specialized helicopters to Mars in 2028 to collect subsurface radar and infrared data. These helicopters will build upon the success of the Ingenuity rotorcraft to assist the Perseverance rover mission.
Why it matters
This represents a significant technological advancement in planetary exploration, enhancing NASA's ability to gather scientific data from the Martian surface.
Description This artist's concept depicts NASA's three SkyFall Mars helicopters collecting data while flying over the surface of the Red Planet.
The green frequency waves emanating from the helicopters' large antennas depict collection of subsurface radar data. The red beams depict collect near-infrared imagery data from regolith (crushed rock and dust) and other surface features.
