NASA's Chandra discovers possible supernova remnant in galactic center

Astronomers using data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes have identified a potential supernova remnant near the center of the Milky Way. If confirmed, this discovery would be one of the closest remnants to the galaxy's supermassive black hole.
Why it matters
Supernova remnants are essential for understanding the distribution of heavy elements necessary for planet formation and the evolution of the galaxy.
