The Director for Youth and Children in the Kampala Archdiocese, the Rev Fr Dr Joseph Mary Ssebunya, has cautioned parents against creating hostile home environments that make children dread returning from school.
Speaking as the main celebrant during the Blessing Mass for Primary Seven candidates at Namugongo Girls’ Boarding Primary School in Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District, on October 23, 2026, the cleric observed that parental conflict is driving children away from their families.
“Such parents exist in other schools, and I am praying that God does not bring them here. When the time comes for the pupils to go home, they get malaria and stomach aches because some families have become battlegrounds like Ukraine and Iran,” Rev Fr Dr Ssebunya said. He urged estranged or conflicting couples to maintain civility, particularly during school functions and in the presence of their children.
