Namibian conservationist nominated for Indianapolis Prize

OTJIWARONGO-based conservationist Dr Laurie Marker has been nominated for the 2027 Indianapolis Prize for her decades-long work to protect cheetahs and reduce human-wildlife conflict in Namibia and beyond.

Marker, founder and executive director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), was announced by the Indianapolis Zoo as one of the nominees for the biennial prize, which recognises scientists who have made significant contributions to preventing species extinction.

Marker has operated CCF’s International Field Research and Education Centre in Otjiwarongo since 1991 and has twice previously been named a DeHaan Finalist for the Indianapolis Prize.
