Namibia sends 17 competitors to WorldSkills Shanghai

NAMIBIA will send 17 young competitors to the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, from 22 to 27 September, with the delegation set to represent the country across 16 skills and benchmark its technical talent against competitors from more than 70 countries and regions.

The event, widely known as the “Skills Olympics”, will give Namibia’s young professionals an opportunity to demonstrate their expertise, exchange knowledge and gain exposure to international standards and best practices.

The Namibian team will compete in Mechatronics, Welding, Plumbing and Heating, Web Technologies, Electrical Installations, Bricklaying, Joinery, Fashion Technology, Automobile Technology, Cooking, Restaurant Services, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Hairdressing, Mechanical Engineering CAD and Water Technology.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Dino Ballotti said Namibia’s competitiveness would increasingly depend on the quality and adaptability of its human capital as the economy evolves and the country positions itself for opportunities in emerging sectors.
