Nameere faces court challenge as Masaka, Luweero handle election petitions

The Masaka High Court has set September 22 for the hearing of an election petition filed by opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa challenging the election of Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere, who belongs to the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] party.

Appearing before Justice Bernard Namanya on Tuesday, Ms Nalubowa’s lawyers, led by Mr Samuel Muyizzi, told court they want the judge to determine whether the recount that resulted in Ms Nameere’s victory was lawfully conducted.

Mr Muyizzi said they also intend to cross-examine seven witnesses for the respondent, including Ms Nameere, when the hearing begins.
