NALSAR students screen Umar Khalid documentary

Hyderabad: The screening of Umar Khalid’s documentary, Prisoner No. 626710 is Present, which was cancelled at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), and National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, was held at NALSAR University of Law in the city on Wednesday evening. A group of students who independently organised the “solidarity screening” said it was held to offer an opportunity “to engage directly with the film’s questions about rights, accountability and the human cost of prolonged incarceration, while expressing solidarity with those affected by these failures of the justice system”.The screening was a private event restricted to students.“The film raises urgent concerns about the delay in the justice system, and about undertrial prisoners being kept in custody for years without their trials even beginning,” one of the students told TOI via email.
