Nabbanja: UAE Travel Restrictions Threatening $4.7Bn Bilateral Trade

DUBAI: Uganda is seeking the removal of UAE restrictions that have suspended new visas for Ugandan nationals and limited entry for travellers arriving from Uganda, Chimp Corps report.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja raised the issue with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan during a meeting in Dubai on Tuesday, saying the “restrictions were adversely affecting trade” between the two countries.

“Talks between the two Governments are underway, and we hope that this issue will be addressed soon,” Nabbanja said.

Kampala is keen on protecting the rapidly expanding commercial ties with the Gulf state, where bilateral trade reached $4.7 billion in 2025.

The UAE introduced the measures on June 6 as a precaution against the spread of Ebola.
