Mysuru: Student groups decry police crackdown on ‘Sansad Chalo’ protesters

Members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) and allied organisations staged a protest at Ramaswamy Circle here on Tuesday (July 21), condemning the police lathi-charge and use of tear gas against protesters during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament.
AIDSO district president Chandrakala alleged that students and youth participating in the march were demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in Central examinations. She criticised the police for denying permission to the march despite it having been announced well in advance, and said the right to protest is a fundamental democratic right.
Alleging that the police action was undemocratic, she appealed to students across the country to raise their voice against the crackdown and the Centre’s handling of the issue.
