Mysuru and Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Wednesday urged the government not to wait for the city’s heritage structures to crumble and called for expediting the restoration of key heritage buildings.
He told reporters in Mysuru that iconic structures such as the Devaraja Market and Lansdowne Building should be declared protected monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), with the Centre and State governments working together for their conservation.
“Heritage structures should not be allowed to deteriorate further. Their restoration should be taken up on priority,” he said.
Mr. Wadiyar said efforts were being made to secure Central funds for the restoration and conservation of heritage buildings in Mysuru.
The MP said he had spoken to airline operators, including IndiGo, seeking more flights to Mysuru. “At least, the city needs to be connected to some of the major metros,” he said.
