"My Patients Cannot Follow The Diet": Malaysia's Kidney Care Community Spent Two Days On That One Question

The 6th Renal Nutrition Conference in Malaysia focused on the practical challenges clinicians face when applying strict dietary guidelines to chronic kidney disease patients. The event aimed to bridge the gap between clinical evidence and the realities of patient lifestyles.
Why it matters
Addressing patient adherence to dietary restrictions is critical for improving long-term health outcomes in chronic disease management.
The 6th Renal Nutrition Conference brought together nephrologists, dietitians, nurses and pharmacists in Subang Jaya — not to debate the latest guidelines, but to examine what happens when those guidelines meet the patient’s actual life.
One session at Malaysia’s largest renal nutrition conference held recently carried a title that stood apart from the clinical language around it.
“My patients cannot follow the diet. What can I do?”
That question — the actual name of a forum at the 6th Renal Nutrition Conference 2026 (RNC2026) — framed what the conference spent two days trying to answer.
The conference, held at Grand Dorsett Subang on 10 and 11 October, drew 450 healthcare professionals from across the renal care community, including nephrologists, dietitians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals.
It was organised by the National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia (NKF) under the theme “Translating Nutrition Evidence into Kidney Patient Care.”
