Corey Ruiz's family speaks publicly for the first time
MADISON (WKOW) — The family of Corey Ruiz spoke publicly for the first time since he was shot and killed by a Madison police officer Wednesday afternoon at a busy intersection on the city's near-east side.
Ruiz's mother, Elsa Ruiz, and his daughter, Kah'liyah Ruiz, were visibly emotional when talking about him on Friday. Several family members, along with civil rights attorney Ben Crump and state Rep. Shelia Stubbs, D-Madison, spoke at the news conference.
"My son was an exceptional guy, he was my love," Elsa Ruiz said. "He loved his daughter. He loved his family. He did not deserve to be taken out like that."
