Why it matters
The piece reflects shifting cultural norms regarding parenting styles and the balance between personal identity and child-rearing.
The author said she didn't want to stop going to concerts when she had a kid, so she brings her along. Courtesy of Jessica Pate Thibault. We've taken our freshly 3-year-old daughter to several big-name concerts, and we have no regrets. I'm not going to stop enjoying concerts and evening events just because I have a child. At times, it's been isolating to not have parent friends who want to join us. My partner and I have always enjoyed going to live events , festivals, and concerts. The city we live in has so many nearby events that it is basically impossible to be bored. Now that we have a child, we don't just seek out kid-focused events ; we still go see the bands and performers we enjoy — even if they happen in the evening.
